My Food Finds (MFF) For April 2010

Written By Srimathi Mani on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 | 3:02 PM

Last month I had announced My Food Finds (MFF) Event to make  people aware of some products that could make life easy for them in the kitchen, be it appliances, produce or market finds. This creates a great opportunity to become aware of products available to us. Often we cross the grocery isle and see various products, but we seldom pick a new product because we are most comfortable in choosing the same product on an average. It is intimidating for most people to try new products for the fear of not being aware as to how they can be used or afraid that it might not be what they are looking for. With the hope of helping and benefiting all, I welcome all (bloggers, manufactureres and non bloggers) to participate, when you come across a product in your part of the world. Thank you.

Here are the products that we have for this month: A special thanks to  Usha of Veg Inspirations for her entry to the event.

Jalapeno Mustard was used in the preparation of Pasta by Usha. A perfect mustard to use in sandwiches as a spread with some extra zing. Mixed with some sour cream and honey they could be transformed into a good dip. If you have any more uses for this product do drop me a line and it can be added.

Kataifi, a shredded phylo dough that can be used in preparing savory or sweet items. These are mostly found in the Middle Eastern stores in the freezer isle. They uncoil easily and can be manipulated to form any shape. A very easy medium to play with and create any appetizer or desserts. They end product is guaranteed to  look elegant. Can be deep fried or baked to create a crunchy texture. I used this product to make Pathir Payni a dessert that is very common in the south of India.

Cara Cara Oranges the navel orange look alike that has a pink interior. They are very sweet and have a cranberry tangy taste to them. They are grown in California and are great additions to any cocktails, salad dressings and juices. In season between January - April. This was what I found at Henry's market place and made some Orange juice for breakfast.

  2. Ya Sailaja, they are great to use when you want to stuff things inside. I think it is the closest to the regular pathir payni or chirotti. Is a breeze to make.
